Laura Allen

Laura Allen is a passionate GB judo athlete whose journey began at the age of 8 at Bedford Judo Club. Now training as an elite athlete at Camberley Judo Club, Laura also dedicates time to coaching juniors at both clubs, emphasising the importance of giving back to her community. Judo has profoundly influenced her life, instilling discipline, resilience, and teamwork. As she trains to compete at the highest levels, we have provided a grant to help Laura with the financial challenges associated with the sport.

Dedicated.

Laura Allen began her judo journey at the age of 8 at Bedford Judo Club, representing her school at the British School’s Championships from ages 12 to 18. She earned her black belt by the age of 15 and became a Level 2 British Judo Coach, enabling her to give back to the community by supporting both Bedford and Camberley Judo Clubs. Laura participated in the British Judo DISE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) programme for two years while completing her A-levels, which required weekly travel to Camberley Judo Club. This dedication led to her current status as a full-time athlete.

Laura's recent competition achievements are impressive. She won a silver medal in the British Seniors while still a junior, earning a place on both the Great Britain and England squads. She secured a silver medal at the Scottish Open, and in the Welsh Open, she won a senior silver and junior bronze. Her first international competition at the Danish Open saw her place 7th in seniors and 5th in juniors. Notably, she was selected to represent the Northern Home Counties (NHC) in the national teams’ competition, becoming the first judoka from Bedfordshire to do so in 30 years, an honour she has earned for both 2023 and 2024.

Laura's typical day involves rigorous training sessions six days a week, focusing on technical skills, gym workouts, and randori, alongside coaching juniors. She also attends Great Britain squad training, England squad training, and Olympic potential training camps, all in preparation for future competitions and training camps abroad.

Excellent Grant.

We have awarded Laura a grant of £4,000 to support her pursuit of excellence in judo. This funding will be utilised to cover her training expenses, competition fees, and travel costs.

With this support, Laura aims to qualify for the 2028 Olympics and represent our community.
